The Montana Department of Natural Resources and Conservation (DNRC) will host its second annual Wildland Firefighting Training Academy from Wednesday, May 28, to Friday, June 6, at the University of Montana-Western in Dillon. The academy will provide comprehensive wildfire training to approximately 175 fire personnel, including DNRC and local firefighters from across Montana.
“The academy provides a streamlined opportunity for firefighters around the state to enhance their knowledge, skills and abilities in the field of wildland fire service,” said Heath Gerber, DNRC training and safety program manager.
This intensive training event covers foundational firefighting techniques, advanced fire weather analysis, incident command, leadership development and chainsaw operations.
During the academy, the public can expect an increased number of emergency vehicles around the Dillon area.
“This academy not only supports DNRC staff, but includes our local government and interagency partners, who will be critical to a safe and effective fire season alongside us,” said Gerber.
Registration for the academy is currently closed. For future training opportunities, contact your local DNRC fire office or visit the DNRC Safety & Training webpage at https://dnrc.mt.gov/Forestry/Wildfire/safety-and-training
