Rain last night substantially reduced the wildfire that began burning Wednesday evening at Makoshika State Park.
West Glendive Fire Department is Incident Command. Aerial fire suppression will be occurring today and the vast majority of the park will remain closed, but the visitors center near the park entrance will remain open to the public.
The yurt and at least one restroom was lost to the wind-driven fire.
Some significant trail damage is anticipated, but the picnic shelters, amphitheater and most campsites have not yet been impacted.
Conditions will be updated when more information becomes available. Please check the Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks – Region 7 Facebook page for updates.
