If you’re not feeling the ski hill lately, fishing has been the move. Warm temps and low pressure have made for a really solid week on the Paradise Valley Spring Creeks and the Yellowstone. According to a fishing report by Sweetwater Fly Shop, the spring creeks are fishing especially well, with hungry post-spawn browns eating mostly small, subtle stuff—midges, sow bugs, and baetis patterns have been money. Bites are light, so think sensitive indicators, shorter leaders, and pay close attention.
On the Yellowstone, flows are up, and fish are holding deep and slow. Nymphing has been the most consistent game, though you can still move a good trout swinging streamers if you slow everything way down. Crowds are light, scenery is peak winter, and if you’re willing to fish patiently, the rewards are there. Just don’t forget winter rules apply—dress smart, eat well, and stay safe out there.
