Montana Fishing Report – June 27th

Summer is finally settling in across Montana, and fishing opportunities are improving by the day. Many rivers are beginning to clear as runoff tapers off, although a few freestone systems are still running a little high. The Missouri, Madison, and Beaverhead continue to offer some of the most consistent trout fishing in the state, with anglers finding success on caddis, PMDs, and nymph rigs during the morning and evening hours.

Warmwater fishing is also heating up. Canyon Ferry is producing solid walleye action on crawler harnesses and bottom bouncers, while Fort Peck continues to kick out walleye, northern pike, and smallmouth bass. Smaller lakes around the state are seeing excellent trout fishing early and late in the day before the summer heat sets in.

If you’re planning a weekend trip, keep an eye on water temperatures during the afternoon and give trout a break if conditions get too warm. Early starts are paying off, and summer fishing is officially underway.
