HELENA – Looking at solutions to the corner crossing issue will be front and center on the next Private Land/Public Wildlife committee (PLPW) meeting June 1 and 2 as requested by Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks Director Christy Clark.
“This is an issue that impacts hunters and landowners alike,” Clark said. “We need a durable solution. The PLPW is uniquely positioned to find that solution, and I’ve asked them to make it a priority.”
The PLPW advisory committee is a citizen advisory committee composed of people interested in issues related to hunters, anglers, landowners and outfitters. Members are appointed by the governor. The committee is charged with reviewing FWP’s hunting and fishing access programs, landowner-hunter relations, outfitting industry issues and any other issues related to private lands and public wildlife. The committee makes recommendations to the FWP director.
The PLPW will meet June 1 and 2 at the FWP Region 6 office in Glasgow and virtually through Zoom. The meeting will run from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on June 1 and 8:30 a.m. to 2:45 p.m. on June 2. After the meeting on June 2, PLPW members will participate in a field tour of FWP access program sites around the region.
The meeting will focus on the following objectives:
- Finalize PLPW recommendations related to work plan topics in preparation for PLPW report
- At the request of FWP Director Christy Clark, review FWP access programs related to corner-to-corner public access scenarios and develop PL/PW solution recommendations to increase landowner participation
- Visit various FWP access program sites in Region 6
