Missouri River Fishing Report 10.27.25

Oct-28-25 by Angela Montana

The following report was written By Mark Raisler and published via Headhunter’s Fly Shop in Craig, MT:

All good here in central Montana other than the current drought situations…Water temps 52F. Water levels 2550cfs.

Some dry fly fishing out there daily. I like the Adams and the cripple. Fish food is what you should be feeding them out there. Some like the CDC or marabou emergers for picking them up. Soft hackle drug behind a dry fly will work too.

Nymphers like the sow bug. And a beaded sow bug. And a double needed sow big. A sow bug with red thread. A sow bug with a dark stripe on the back. A sow bug with…

Nymphers also like the BWO nymphs like Aero Baetis, Bubble Up May, Glass Bullet Olive, Ju-Ju Baetis Tunghead, and more. A classic unweighted Pheasant Tail in 18-22 is always a good idea. As well as a small black or olive soft hackle beaded or not.

Shallow waters like big fish.

Streamer anglers liking the Leech. Swingers too. Come in to the shop or visit CraigFlyShop.com for your streamer selections. Arnold’s Stinger Sculpin was the key for me a couple days last week. The black leech tho…

Windy today. Let’s hope the wind stays away man. We have had 5 cloudy days this October. Pretty good. Hopefully November is full of calm, overcast, and moist days as we love the next month through the Thanksgiving holiday weekend!

Headhunters with daily guide trips, lodging galore including the Craig Trout Camp here in Craig which is perennially popular! Stay in Craig, eat in Craig, and fish in Craig. HH with rental waders if you need. And the Trout Spey HQ in the Sri-county region.

Izaak’s closed for the season. Thanks go out to Chef John, Scotty, Zuzanna, BK in back and of course Chris for feeding us this year! Just awesome house mad food that we will miss until late March 2026.

TapHouse closed for the season. May do a night a month in the winter season. Thanks for pouring local tap beers from Ten Mile Brewery. Alan at the Stonefly Grill for the Pizzas and burgers. Still wondering why Alan did not name it the CaddisFly Cafe as we do not have stoneflies that make a difference here on the Mo. Or Mayfly Junction. Or Midge Madness. Not my business, just speculation. Always wondering.

Thanks as always to our lunch maker Kelli at Mo River Eats. She delivers the lunches for 8 months to us in Craig. Could not operate without her. And terrific lunches too. Just awesome. Consistent, priced appropriately, and deee-licious. Thanks Kelli. We cannot thank you enough!!!

Rumor of the River Hub open this winter. We will see how that plays out. It gets pretty quiet in Craig starting today.

HH Fly Shop open daily 8am throughout the entire winter.
