14th Annual Hebgen Lake Ice Fishing Tournament

Jan-03-26 by Angela Montana

The 14th Annual Hebgen Lake Ice Fishing Tournament returns to West Yellowstone on January 16–17, 2026 (with January 30–31 as backup dates), bringing anglers together for a winter weekend that mixes serious fishing with plenty of social time. Friday is all about getting settled—pre-tournament fishing is allowed until 4:00 p.m., after which everyone must be off the ice. Friday evening includes online registration check-in, a required rules meeting (at least one team member must attend), and the always-popular Calcutta and raffle. Registration order also determines lineup order on tournament day, so showing up on time matters.

Saturday is game day. Team inspections begin at 6:30 a.m., with release to travel at 7:30 a.m. Check-in opens at 8:30 a.m. at the weigh-in trailer at Kirkwood Marina, and fishing runs until the afternoon. The day wraps up with a 5:00 p.m. awards banquet, where at least one team member must be present to claim any prizes or placements. Set on legendary Hebgen Lake, the tournament delivers classic high-elevation ice fishing, unpredictable winter conditions, and a strong sense of camaraderie. For those looking to make a full weekend of it, sponsors offer snowmobile rentals and over-snow tours into Yellowstone National Park, making it easy to come early or stay late and enjoy everything winter in the West Yellowstone area has to offer.
