Troy, Montana Man Dies After Falling Through Ice on Spar Lake During Ice Fishing Trip, Sheriff’s Office Says

On March 1, 2026, LCSO Dispatch received a report from family members that
Keith Mack, a 63-year-old male from Troy, Montana, was missing. The family
reported that Mack had left his residence on the morning of Saturday, February 28,
2026, to go ice fishing at Spar Lake and failed to return home as expected.
Family members began searching for Mack during the night. His snowmobile was
located at the Spar Lake Campground. After being unable to locate him, the family
contacted Dispatch to request Search and Rescue assistance.
David Thompson Search and Rescue personnel and LCSO deputies responded to
the area. Mack’s fishing gear was located near a hole in the ice on Spar Lake.
Based on the circumstances, Flathead County Search and Rescue dive team
members were requested to assist.
Divers responded and conducted recovery operations. Mack was located and
recovered from the water on the morning of March 2, 2026.
Next of kin has been notified.
