About this tournament

Hell Creek Bay on Fort Peck Lake is one of the most productive walleye fisheries in Montana, and for 25 years the Walleyes Unlimited Jordan Chapter has dedicated this June Saturday to the women who fish it. The tournament is women-only — boat captains and partners alike — and is one of the longer-running female-focused walleye events in the Mountain West.

The event runs Saturday from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., launching from Hell Creek Marina north of Jordan. Entry is $100 per 2-angler team, and the field has a friendly, family-on-the-water tone — many teams are mothers and daughters or sisters fishing together. Proceeds support the Jordan Chapter’s walleye conservation and youth-fishing initiatives.

Fort Peck in mid-June typically fishes the rocky points and submerged structure in 10–25 feet of water as walleyes finish their post-spawn recovery and key on perch and ciscoes.

Schedule

  • Friday evening — registration and rules meeting at Hell Creek Marina
  • Saturday 7:00am – 3:00pm — tournament hours
  • Saturday afternoon — weigh-in and awards at Hell Creek

What to expect

Mid-June walleyes at Hell Creek often hold on main-lake rocky points and underwater humps in 12–22 feet. Bottom-bouncers with crawler harnesses are the workhorse; jigs tipped with minnows or crawlers work the shallower edges early and late. Watch for surface activity over deeper structure — Fort Peck’s smallmouth bass and pike will crash baits too. The run from Hell Creek Marina to the better walleye structure can be long, so fuel up and watch the wind forecast.

History

Now in its 25th year, the Hell Creek Women’s Walleye Tournament is one of the longest-running women’s fishing events in Montana. The Jordan Chapter of Walleyes Unlimited launched the tournament to grow female participation in competitive walleye fishing on Fort Peck Lake.
