Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks has declared an emergency closure of Silver Run Wildlife Management Area near Red Lodge due to grizzly bear activity. The area is unsafe for public use while efforts are made to trap a conflict bear that poses a threat to safety. The closure remains until further notice.

Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks has detected non-native brown trout in Ashley Lake and Church Slough and urges anglers to report any catches. Immediate killing of brown trout in the Flathead drainage is necessary to prevent their establishment, which would harm local fisheries. Anglers are vital in aiding monitoring efforts.

In southwest Montana, warming river temperatures are leading to increased fishing restrictions. The Madison River is completely closed to fishing from July 15, and hoot-owl restrictions apply to several rivers, prohibiting fishing from 2 p.m. to midnight.
