Lars Sorenson’s Nelson Fishing Report – January 17th

Interviewer: Lars Sorensen on Nelson Reservoir. Hey, Lars, good morning.

Lars Sorensen: Good morning, guys. How’s it going?

Interviewer: Good. Pretty good. Tell us something good, Lars.

Lars Sorensen: Well, you know, we had that warm spell here just a couple days ago, and then this morning I got out here and got set up early. It was about four degrees, and the ice is looking good.

Interviewer: Nice.

Lars Sorensen: It definitely melted all the snow off the top of the ice, so it’s slick, but no, it’s looking good out here.

Interviewer: Lars, right now it’s probably some of the best ice in the state.

Lars Sorensen: Right.

Interviewer: That’s something to brag about, that’s for sure, this time of the year, or this year in Montana.

Interviewer: Lars, what’s the fishing like, though? What are you catching there, walleyes, perch, northerns?

Lars Sorensen: Well, it’s been a mixed bag for the most part. The perch have been really the go-to. We’re getting, on average, probably 20-some good 10- to 11-inch perch. A handful of walleye mixed in. They were fishing pretty deep, just trying to avoid some of the northerns. If we want to get more northerns, we’ll move in shallower.

Interviewer: Okay. Cool. Are there a lot of people fishing out there right now?

Lars Sorensen: You know, there’s people showing up as we speak, but it’s really not bad. Over New Year’s to Christmas, it was a zoo out here, but it’s pretty good right now.

Interviewer: All right, great. Lars, thanks for the report. How do they get a hold of you if they actually want to go out and have a guided trip on Nelson Reservoir?

Lars Sorensen: Well, you can go to Gimpinette Outfitters. That’s my outfitter, Joe Brunzel. You can get a hold of me on Facebook at Ford Tech Fishing Guides, LLC, or you can give me a call at 406-526-7311.

Interviewer: Lovely. All right.

Interviewer: Lars Sorenson. Thanks, buddy. Good luck today.
