I got some time away to hit the Thompson River again. The snow was really coming down, but it just goes to show if you are willing to get out in the elements you can still bend your rod.
Today, I got a special treat. A bull trout came to meet me! (Note that we as anglers are not to target the bull trout in Montana.) It is a species of special concern. The bull trout is making a strong come back my mind. I have seen more of them over the years of guiding clients.
On the banks of the river, there is still two feet of snow. Shelf ice can be very dangerous. I tell all my clients, “Think before you sink!”
If you find yourself in an iffy situation to get that nice trout. Stop and make sure that you are in a safe place and your footing is sound.
