Warmer weather and Idaho Steelheads in The Montana Outdoor Weekly Wrap Up
By Matt Schauer

The weather was probably the biggest news of the week. All across the state on our fishing reports the ice was starting to honeycomb and anglers were looking to get on the open water. Boat dealers like Bretz RV and Marine were busy getting customers boats ready for the water. It certainly looks like spring is just around the corner. Highs for the week were in the upper 60’s.

By now you have moved your clocks ahead one hour to daylight savings time. Next up this week, Thursday, March 15th looms as the deadline to get your resident deer and elk permits in. They must be postmarked by the US Postal Service by March 15.

This week, Jim Johnson, from Lincoln and Hi County Snack Foods and I are heading to Orofino, Idaho to try our luck steelhead fishing. MORS crew member Kjel Olson made a post last week that basically told the story on how in three days he finally figured out where the steelhead were staging in the river. After a slow day and half of fishing Kjel and his his fishing buddy ended up with 13 fish for their efforts, plus Kjel was able to hook a 38 inch red sided beauty.

I want to congratulate Erik Picken, of Great Falls, and Rick Hall, of Belgrade.  They were last Saturdays winners on Kendal Four Season statewide trivia on the Montana Outdoor Radio Show. Both answered the trivia questions from two of the weekly posts on MontanaOutdoor.com!
