Good Ice and Great Fishing in the Hebgen Lake Report

Hebgen Lake- No real signs of ice-out yet! A couple of small spots along the north shore are receding, but that is about it. Ice is holding around 20” on the majority of the lake. The top crust is firm and fishing for Rainbows couldn’t be better! Same as previous reports, jigging 5-20 ft under the ice is producing good fish in good numbers, but also make sure to put that dead stick out with a bit of crawler, mealy, or maggots for those fish not wanting to chase their meal and the occasional Brown. Access at the Dam is closed until further notice. However walking down the banks to your favorite spot is getting easier as the warm sunshine melts the remaining snow. Kirkwood Marina’s boat ramp is also still open for foot or snowmobile traffic so feel free to come visit and “launch” from here to enjoy the last month of ice fishing while you have the lake almost exclusively to yourself. For up-t0-the-minute ice reports give Kirkwood Resort and Marina a call.
