Attention Montana Bear Hunters

This is Joe Kondelis, President of the Yellowstone Country Bear Hunters Association.

Please Note that you must take and pass a “black bear identification test” before purchasing a black bear hunting license. A hunter must present a certificate of completion during the purchase of their black bear license.  Also any black bear license purchased after April 14th may not be used until 24 hours after the license purchase.

Any black bear harvested must be reported within 5 days of harvest.  The successful hunter must present to a Montana FWP official the complete bear hide (with proof of sex remaining naturally attached) and skull for the purpose of inspection, tagging, and removal of tooth for aging. The tag affixed during inspection must remain attached until hide is tanned.

A link to the bear identification test can be found on our website at www.ycbha.org.
