The earliest that Fort Peck has completely frozen over, according to John Daggett, was December 10th in 1983.
The 30-year record is still standing according Daggett,
“We had a big wind yesterday and the lake did not freeze over. The next earliest date for ice cover is December 13th set in 1985. I think the lake is close to freezing but we are going to have calm winds and lows close to or below zero for it to do it. Today is +13 degrees with a north wind and it feels like a heat wave”.
