The World of Water

Okay, so there isn’t an ocean bordering Montana, but people do leave Montana to visit the ocean. There is a lot about the ocean we do not know about, but, thanks to a curious photographer, we can get a better idea of what is in the ocean.

The picture below might make you think twice about even opening your mouth to talk while you’re splashing water around in the ocean.  The objects you see are all in a single drop of sea water.  ONE DROP!  So, imagine when you’re playing, just splish-splashing around at the beach and you accidentally get a mouthful..not just a drop…of this in your mouth!  According to a recent post on unbelievable-facts.tumblr.com, Photographer David Littschwager took this pretty insane shot of a drop of seawater and magnified it 25 times.  The ecosystem that exists in this single drop of sea water includes crab larva, diatoms, bacteria, fish eggs, zooplankton and worms!

So, keep your mouth closed the next time you’re in the ocean if you don’t want to ingest the pictured buffet.  This is only a fraction of what is out there, too!
