UPDATE 6.4.14 via KPAX.com:

BOZEMAN – Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks officials have released more information about the attack by a bear on a hunter in the Centennial Valley over the weekend.

The Stevensville man remains in serious condition after the attack, and FWP says that the bear is dead.

The victim was hunting with his father when the attack occurred. FWP says it has now confirmed that it was an adult grizzly bear that attacked the man.

“We know that this is a male adult 10-year old grizzly bear. It was dead. It had succumbed to a gunshot,” FWP spokeswoman Andrea Jones said.

Jones says the investigation into the incident is ongoing, as officials are trying to determined who fired the fatal shot.

The attack happened deep in the back-country at the south end of the Gravelly Mountains, south of Dillon.

Jones also noted that the grizzly was not a collared bear, meaning FWP has no other information about the bear.
