Happy New Year!! I hope that the holidays brought you great joy, fun, not many lumps of coal, and the New Year brings all of us good health, great famend8amily and friends, and much prospamend5erity.

It is at this time I try to give readers of my missives some of my thoughts about projects for upcoming posts in this New Year, 2015. If anyone has suggestions for subjects they would like discussed in this format, please let me know. You can use this address: colsmoothbore@guncoach.net. Over time I’ve had some great suggestions from readers, and I’d really appreciate some more from you.

amend3This year, I hope to offer more material on the fun hobby of reloading; both metallic and shotshell. I’ll give you a few of my favorite loads and offer my thoughts on various components and equipment. I have a new rifle chambered in .204 Ruger that I am anxious to work up some loads for; I’ll keep you informed on the process.

amend7We’ll continue to look at different firearms, their designers, and the companies that manufacture them. I hope to be able to visit some of the plants that make guns and accessories right here in Montana and give readers a closer look at those businesses and the people who give us many great products. I think many of you will be surprised at just how many people are employed in good paying jobs in Montana’s firearms industry. And they make some really cool stuff. The SHOT show is coming soon and with it many new firearm models and accessories.amend1 I’ll point out some of my favorites and hope you like them too.

The Montana legislature is about to begin its biannual session this month. I’ll try to keep you apprised of legislation that affects us gun owners and sportamend4smen. I’ll also give you my opinion, for whatever it is worth, on the various firearms related bills that will affect us. I also intend to offer some more thoughts on what is happening in Washington, D.C. and other states, and how those issues affect all of us.

Finally, when the competition shooting season begins, I’ll try to give you a head’s up on the weekly tournaments and matches occurring across Montana. If you would like me to mentionamend2 your event, just drop me a note at the email address listed above. Please give me a couple of weeks’ notice; we all have deadlines you know, and I’ll pass it on to the online editors at montanaoutdoor.com.

Again, Happy New Year, and remember to keep your powder dry.

Be safe and good shooting.
