Fishermen:

In my last report I predicted good perch and bass fishing in the Polson area above the dam and good bass fishing below the dam. Well “good “has progressed to beyond “better “on the verge of “Best”.

Saturday the 4th of September while fishing for bait fish, I hooked and landed close to 30 smallies from 5 inches to near 3 lbs. using a size 10 smile’ hook baited with maggots. I also filled a cooler full of multi-sized bait fish. If you’re interested we pay .40 /lb. for fish over 9 inches and .35 each for fish 9” and under. The .35apiece for the small fish is definitely the best money.

My friend, “Stuey” from Bozeman took his family to East Bay where they had a banner day for both perch and small mouth.

This fishing should last at least another month and possibly a month and a half depending on weather conditions.

I’m still finding the wacky setup is best for small mouth but our new Smile’ Series (no hook can catch a fish without a smile” :J ) has proven effective for smallies, perch, and bait fish.

The Mack Days Tournament begins September 23rd. With the perch population being way up in the main Flathead Lake the lake trout will have a tendency to hug the shoreline when water temperature becomes comfortable for them. In the past, it’s been close to 10 years now, when this condition last existed, a 25 to 35 foot depth held lots of fish.
