A couple from Oregon plead guilty to illegally shooting a Bison within Grand Teton National Park. The couple was had shot and killed a bull bison, harvested it within the park’s boundary and used an off-road vehicle to retrieve the animal carcass. The incident was first reported by hunters who came along the trail of a cleaned animal as well as a drag trail. They then saw the significant damage the off road vehicle did to the landscape of the park. After several interviews, officials identified Gary and Laurie Washington as the individuals responsible. Gary has been fined over $8,000 and sentenced to three years of unsupervised probation, in addition to a world-wide hunting ban through 2017. Laurie also received three years and a hunting ban, but did not receive a fine.
