A message from Governor Bullock

We are experiencing unprecedented flooding all across Montana – everywhere from the Hi-Line and the Fort Belknap Indian Reservation to Missoula and Lewis and Clark County.

Last week, I declared a statewide flooding emergency. My executive order provides state resources such as sandbags, pumps, and emergency services coordinators to assist local and tribal jurisdictions with on the ground efforts.

I’ve seen the devastation of the flooding first hand. Lisa and my thoughts are with our neighbors whose homes, businesses, and schools are being affected by the flooding. The brave volunteers and emergency services teams working around the clock are doing an incredible job evacuating Montanans and protecting homes and businesses from further damage.

I take this very seriously and am in constant communication with the Montana Disaster and Emergency Services at the Department of Military Affairs about the developments across Montana. The State of Montana remains in regular communication with county and tribal governments about the resources they need to get the job done.

Parts of Montana still have up to 200% of normal snowpack for this time of year. Combined with recent rainfalls, the conditions are ripe for severe flooding to continue in Montana. Local, state, and federal partners are working together to ensure every available resource is used to keep families safe and make sure homes and critical infrastructure are protected.

This has been a long and challenging year for Montanans. From an incredibly difficult fire season to severe winter storms and record snowfall, Montanans have had to stay vigilant when faced with the ugly side of mother nature. Conditions this week and throughout the month will continue to be challenging. Everyone – residents, first responders, volunteers – must continue to stay safe, stay informed, and continue to support our emergency services teams, our communities, and families impacted by flooding.

I am making certain adequate resources are available to respond to flooding across Montana and will continue to pursue all available state and federal resources to support ongoing efforts and recovery needs.

Thank you for your continued strength and vigilance during this time.

Sincerely,

STEVE BULLOCK
Governor
