Kalispell, MT — Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks on May 18 issued an emergency closure for a portion of Noxon Reservoir in Sanders County due to dangers from high water levels, fast-moving currents and compromised safety infrastructures.

At the request of the Sanders County Sheriff’s Office and Avista Corporation, FWP has temporarily closed Noxon Reservoir for recreational use from the mouth of Blacktail Creek downstream to Noxon Rapids Dam. Heavy debris in the reservoir took out an emergency barrier near the dam.

The closure applies to all water-based recreation, including, but not limited to: wading, swimming, fishing, floating, boating.

Signs announcing the closure are being posted and will be removed when the rule is no longer effective.

This rule is effective while dangerous conditions exist and will expire as soon as FWP and partners determine the area is safe for recreational use.
