The Beartooth Wildlife Management Area is closed due to wildfire activity.

The Beartooth WMA is located north of Helena. The Shellrock Fire is currently about 300 acres and burning on private and FWP lands. It was started by lightning on Aug. 11. Travelers on the Holter Road along the Missouri River and Holter Reservoir should be careful of increased fire traffic. A fire camp for crews battling the fire is being established at Cottonwood Campground on the WMA.

Additionally, the access road into the Wall Creek WMA south of Ennis is closed to wildfire activity. The Monument Fire is burning on National Forest lands outside of the WMA, but fire safety concerns due to the fire activity have prompted the road closure. The fire is about 4,200 acres in size. The road into the WMA is closed, but the WMA itself is open for the time being.
