The following was posted by Angler’s West Flyfishing on March 14th:

As more and more people start to think about fishing the river we figured it would be a good idea to issue a little report on the status of ice and boat ramps on the river. The upper stretches are freed up of most of the ice. We haven’t had eyes on the sections off of the highway but assume that there shouldn’t be any problems. We’ve gotten reports of people floating throughout most of the system and is a good reason to think there aren’t any places to be worried about. The only tricky spot that we know of at the moment is the Mallard’s Rest boat ramp. Don’t even bother, there is an 8 ft ice shelf all the way to the top of the ramp. See the pics above.

Yellowstone River FAS statuses:

Carbella – Closed for renovations

Point of Rocks – Open

Emigrant – Open

Grey Owl – Open

Loch Leven – Open

Mallard’s Rest – Closed(Ice)

Pine Creek – Open, likely some ice but shouldn’t be too bad

Carter’s Bridge – Open

Mayor’s Landing – Open

89 Bridge – Open

Pig Farm – Open

Springdale – Open

If any of you have any more specific questions regarding the boat ramps feel free to give us a shout. We’re operating our early season business hours of 9am-5pm, Tuesday through Saturday. Looking forward to seeing more and more familiar faces as the season progresses!
