Hush Puppies are a wonderful alternative to other fish fry sides. Usually, sides can include Onion Rings, Fries, or Mac n Cheese. Next time, try a Southern Fish Side with your fish fry. Hush Puppies are a fired corn meal and batter ball of tasty fun. Here’s how to Air Fry these Puppies for a different and healthy side dish that will compliment your next Fish Fry dinner.

Ingredients

1 cup of corn meal

1 cup of flour

1 tbsp. of sugar

can of cream style corn

OLD BAY seasoning. (I use this premixed spice on most of my fish and seafood. This made in Maryland spice already includes the paprika, onion salt, cayenne pepper, garlic powder, and other commonly used spices for a fish recipe.)

1 ½ tsp. of baking powder

2 tbsp. of minced onion

1 large egg

¼ cup of milk

Spray Canola oil or … (I have also sprayed Peanut oil or Ollivelle flavored infused oils onto the puppies)

Mix the Corn meal, flour, sugar, baking powder, spices in a medium bowl

Whisk the egg and milk in a separate bowl. Then stir in the cream o corn and minced onion.

Mix all the wet and dry ingredients together.

Form the batter into balls about the size of a golf ball. Now roll the balls into another dish with dry corn meal. This adds a nice corn meal coating. Place the coated Puppies into the freezer for 30 minutes.

Now place the Puppies into the Air Fryer Basket at 400 degrees. Spray the Puppies lightly with the oil. Set the timer to 10 minutes. Check and turn the Puppies halfway through the fry. Spray the Puppies again with the oil.

The Puppies should be golden brown and done in the middle. Different fryers cook differently so you may need 2-3 more minutes. When serving, sprinkle with parsley and serve with ketchup or your favorite dipping sauce.

Enjoy your healthy PUPS!!!
