Greasy fish and fries are not the healthiest, tastiest, or best way to enjoy a fish fry. No one needs too much grease in their diet, especially when fish are so healthy to enjoy. Getting the propane fish fryer and basket ready, a Dutch Oven pan, and splattering oil around can be a more work and mess than is needed. Folks often dismiss a fried fish meal due to the cleanup and how it stinks up the kitchen. Avoid the mess of frying with an Air Fryer. 

Air Fried food is a simple and perfect and healthier alternative to frying. Using an Air Fryer eliminates the oil, is quicker, healthier, and tastes great!

Modify this recipe for your personal tastes and portions.

1-2 lbs. of fish filets cut into portion sized pieces (I remove the skin)

1 tsp Old Bay seasoning, Fresh ground salt and pepper

½ cup of flour mixed with some Panko breadcrumbs

1 large beaten egg

Lemon wedges and Tartar sauce for serving

Dry the fish pieces with a paper towel and season with salt and pepper.

Put the Panko, flour, and Old Bay into a shallow bowl for coating the fish. A zip bag will also do the trick.

Once the fish is coated in the Panko mixture, coat the fish in the beaten egg, then once more in the Panko Mixture.

I have found that if you allow the coated filets to rest for 30 minutes or so, the batter clings better to the fish. Simply place the coated filets onto a covered plate or waxed paper.

Place the coated fish in the Air Fryer and cook at 400 degrees for 10-12 minutes. Flip the fish halfway through. The done fish should be flaky and golden brown. You can spray some canola oil if you desire. I have also sprayed a light coating of Ollivelle’s Blood Orange flavored olive oil for a different flavor. You can also spray the oil when flipping the filets to get both sides.

Serve with lemon wedges and a fresh Tartar sauce or sauce that you prefer.

I have also made Crab or fish cakes using the same recipe. The simple Air Fryer cleanup is only beat by the great tasting and healthy fish dinner.

Using an Air Fryer is also a great way to make you sides like French fries, onion rings, Hush Puppies and… Your kitchen won’t stink, cleanup is a breeze, and the healthy fish are delicious.
