FWP News: MEDIA ALERT: FWP to hold virtual media call
By angelamontana

Posted: September 13, 2022

What: Media call via Zoom to discuss bear awareness and activity in Montana.

Who: FWP bear specialists and communications staff

When: Thursday Sept. 15 at 10 a.m.

Why: Fall is a busy time of year for bear conflicts around Montana. Bears are entering hyperphagia, a state in which they focus much of their time on building fat reserves in preparation for winter. During this time bears feed longer and move around more in search of food. This often brings them in conflict with homeowners, livestock producers, and others.

Additionally, it’s hunting season in Montana and hunters are more apt to encounter bears this time of year than any other.

In an effort to help educate the public on the importance of being bear aware, we invite the media to a Zoom call to hear from our specialists and ask questions they may have.
