The road at radio hill junction/Saddle that leads to the Lion’s Camp, the archery range and Valley View Loop is currently closed due to a sink hole that is developing under the road. We are working with contractors to get this resolved, but at this time it is unclear when we will be able to re-open the road.

Rosebud Isle FAS has limited access due to ice jam causing flooding. Fishing Access Site with limited access remain open to walk-in use but people are urged to avoid these areas and exercise extreme caution.
NW corner is permanently closed due to high unstable riverbank. There is Walk-in access from the SE section. Access is still possible at the walk-in point on the east side of the river.
Springdale was closed due to a wildland fire on March 28, 2022. The site was reopened April 27. FWP advises all visitors to stay clear of the large slash pile and avoid walking in the burned area due to stump holes. FWP plans to burn the slash pile during the winter of 2022. For public safety, no firewood cutting or scavenging from the slash pile is permitted. FWP will continue to assess the area for future hazards. FWP took measures to retain as much wildlife habitat as possible while accounting for visitor safety. Fire is a natural part of the ecosystem and helps eliminate dangerous fuel build up while promoting healthy regeneration.
This fishing access site is closed due to flood damage leaving the site unsafe. These public safety risks caused by extremely high water levels, endangered and failing infrastructure, flooded and impassible access roads, and limited availability of search and rescue resources. Closures will be strictly enforced.
Valley Garden FAS is closed to all public occupation and recreation as signed. There is ice gouging and ice jams on the Madison River that have caused water to channel through multiple portions of the fishing access sites, which is then freezing. Signs closing the FAS will be removed when the rule is no longer effective.
The south portion of Water Birch FAS is closed to motorized vehicle access due to flooding however walk-in traffic is allowed. The north end is open. Flooding poses significant safety hazards, especially to recreationists. High water levels and related river hazards can appear and evolve without warning. Recreationists can avoid accidents and injury to themselves and others by observing all safety closures and avoiding other areas with high flows.
York’s Island FAS is closed effective December 29, 2022. There are ice jams on the Missouri River that have caused water and ice to channel through multiple portions of the fishing access site. The combination of dangerous conditions includes ice covered roadways and accessways and flooding, ultimately rendering unsafe conditions for pedestrian and vehicle travel. This rule will remain in effect until the department determines that the site is again safe for public occupancy. This will depend on the extent and the duration of the ice jams on the river causing flooding into the fishing access site. Signs closing the fishing access site will be removed when the rule is no longer effective.
