When we travel around Big Sky Country, it’s nice to listen to some Montana Music. The trip to and from a fishing hole, hunting spot, ski slope, or fun Montana destination becomes better with some good beats.
When you search for music about Montana, the pickings are thin. There is a lot of classical music, but those songs have no words. There are some wonderful Yellowstone Park themed mixes, with no words, that make great background music when touring the Park.
Some songs, like Johnny Cash’s ‘I’ve Been Everywhere”, mention Montana. Other songs are just generic and could be about Montana. If you search for Montana songs, you will find a swamp filled with Miley Cyrus as Hannah Montana hits!
When Colonel Custer and the 7th Calvary rode into Montana, they listened to Gary Owen, an old drinking song. Apparently Crazy Horse and company didn’t like it.

One of my favorite Montana songs is about a horse called “Old Paint”. Emmylou Harris sings this so well, but Colter Wall also has a unique version of the same tune. Emmylou also sings “Even Cowgirls Get the Blues”, which makes me think about Montana.
Whatever style of music that you enjoy, there is a song about Montana. Make your own music as you celebrate Big Sky Country!
