BILLINGS – Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks game wardens are seeking information on a mule deer buck found shot and wasted on private land between Fishtail and Absarokee in Stillwater County.

A member of the public reported the deer to FWP on Sunday, Oct. 22. Wardens investigated the situation and found the dead deer with a gunshot wound approximately 20 yards from a nearby road. The deer was likely shot on Saturday, Oct. 21, the opening day of the general big game season.

Hunters are prohibited from wasting any part of a game animal that is suitable for food, including the tenderloins, backstraps and all of the four quarters.

Anyone with possible information is asked to call the local game warden at 406-690-8888 or the FWP violation reporting hot line at 1-800-TIP-MONT. Callers may be eligible for a cash reward of up to $1,000.
