Montana is certainly famous for our Big Skies”, but there are several other Big Sky Country nicknames. Montana is named after the Spanish work meaning “mountainous”. There is no direct evidence that early Spanish explorers were even in Montana, but hey surely did notice the Rocky Mountains.

Recently, an MSU student’s license plate gave new meaning to our state name as “EZ2LUV”. Sadly, only one license plate is legal.

The 406 is awarded to our state since it represents our telephone area code.

Since 300 mountain peaks rise over 9,000 feet, we are also known as the “Mountain State”.

The copper kings of Butte, our once state capital, called Montana “High, Wide, and Handsome”. These same rich people fattened their wallets and called us the “Bonanza State”. They also named Montana as the “Treasure State”.

Our snow-capped peaks reflect on our name as “Land of Shining Mountains”. The author of purple mountains majesty surely visited our state.

Many rivers begin in southwest Montana which makes us the” Headwaters State”.

Hikers, joggers, and dancers stumbled across our state that they call “Stub Toe State”.

In summary, Big Sky Country is also “Unspoiled, Unforgettable, and Uninhabited” with less than 1 million residents.

“God’s Country” is truly a religious experience that has made people smile for thousands of years.
