Denbury, Inc., Exxon Mobil subsidiary, helps FWP enhance site
MILES CITY – Thanks to a generous donation from Denbury Inc., a subsidiary of Exxon Mobil Corporation, visitors to South Sandstone Fishing Access Site have enjoyed utilizing a new boat dock this season.
A boat dock has been a top request from the public for many years at the recreation site near Plevna and Baker. Denbury, Inc. has an office in Baker.
South Sandstone offers a variety of recreational opportunities including camping, fishing, hiking, boating and hunting. The site is open year-round and is as popular during the winter for ice fishing as it is during the summer recreating season. The average annual visitation is 5,400 people per year.
In February 2024, Denbury Inc. partnered with FWP to make a boat dock a reality and covered the full cost of more than $13,000.
Helm Marine of Aberdeen, S.D., which provided the dock, is confident that it will hold up under consistent public use. FWP Region 7 staff will perform any necessary maintenance on the dock over time, as well as fulfill annual insertion and removal requirements.
“We would like to express our sincere gratitude to Denbury, Inc. for generously donating a new boat dock to South Sandstone Fishing Access Site,” said FWP recreation manager Garrett Jericoff. “A dock at South Sandstone has been requested by the public for years, and we look forward to visitors being able to use it for many years to come.”
Jericoff added, “We would also like to thank the Montana State Park Foundation for assisting with the handling of donation funds. Their contribution to the success of this project was crucial. We are fortunate to have such engaged and productive project partners.”
