Let’s talk BLTs. You know, that classic sandwich stacked with bacon, lettuce, and tomato on toasted bread. But what if we told you the “B” doesn’t have to stand for bacon?

Fish can actually make an excellent BLT addition.

Now before the bacon purists come for us, give it a chance. A crispy fish filet (could be walleye, crappie, perch—whatever you have on hand), paired with fresh tomato, crunchy lettuce, and some spicy mayo on toasted sourdough. You don’t have to completely omit the bacon–we all know bacon is good on everything! It’s everything you love about a BLT, but with a fresher, flakier, fishing-related feel.

It’s also a great way to mix things up after a long day on the water. Do you have some fresh fillets and you’re not sure what to do with them? Toss them in the fryer or pan, slap ’em on a sandwich, and boom—your post-fishing meal just blew up–in a good way.

Bacon, alone, will always have a place in our hearts (and on our griddles), but next time you’re filleting your catch, maybe let it crash the BLT party. Trust us—your taste buds will thank you.
