Montana is always referred to as Big Sky Country. How and why did we get this Big Sky Label?

Here are some possible reasons.

Big Skies are common because we are generally on top of higher ground. This means more sky on the horizons to view. The Rocky Mountains are Big perches to see our Big Skies!

When in BSC, your personal space is much larger. If you are in a city, you may only have a foot or so of space around you before you ar being touched by someone else. In BSC, you have plenty of room to spread out and see so much more.

City folks have limited skyscapes. Tall buildings and skyscrapers make your viewing more confined.

Pollution is never a good idea. Smog, fog, or dirty air means less visibility and a sky that is just not as clear.

Big Critters live in BSC. These giant elk, bison, and bears make everything seem bigger in comparison. If these large mammals get into your personal spaces, they appear even bigger.

High altitude means clearer air.

The world is always bigger when you are on a mountain top. Not only can you see up and out, but you can also see down. That’s a Big View.

Whatever you think about Big Sky Country, the views are truly impressive. These vistas change every 5 minutes, hours, days, weeks, and seasons. Our purple mountains majesty need to be see to be believed.

Waking up in Big Sky Country is a Big Deal!
