FWP Helena Area Reservoirs Fishing Report 7.7.25
Canyon Ferry: Walleye action is really heating up between Pond 1 and Confederate, north of the Silos between Hole in the Wall and White Earth, and Hellgate bay – including the north point. The best action has been while trolling bottom bouncers with spinner blades, jigs with a worm, or crankbaits in 15-20 feet of water. An occasional perch is being picked up as well. Rainbows are being caught on walleye gear, lures or cowbells in the traditional walleye spots as well as the north end of the reservoir. Shore fishing has produced a few rainbows and walleye around the Silos and Confederate. Troy Humphrey, FWP, Helena
Hauser: The walleye bite has been good while casting jigs and leeches from the Causeway Bridge and while jigging or trolling bottom bouncers inside the Causeway Arm, or between York Bridge and Soup Creek. A few rainbows are being caught from shore at York Bridge with plain crawlers, spoons or powerbait, and during the early morning hours while trolling flashers with wedding rings tipped with crawlers between York Bridge and Black Sandy. A few rainbows and walleye are being caught below Canyon Ferry Dam while drifting slip bobbers with nightcrawlers. Chris Hurley, FWP, Helena
Holter: Good numbers of perch and walleye are being caught inside the Canyon while jigging with worms around weed beds in 10-30 feet of water. Trolling bottom bouncers and crawler harnesses on the lower end of the reservoir near the Clay Banks has been producing a few walleye, perch, and rainbow trout as well. Trout action has been best during the early morning hours while trolling flashers and spinner combos or spoons 25-40 feet deep across from Cottonwood creek and on the lower end of the reservoir between Split Rock and the Dam.
