AI is offering a new way for anglers to be successful at their sport. New technology is creating a whole new world of innovation. The future of fishing will need to be measured and regulated in a new way to keep fish populations sustainable and healthy.
Today, many anglers feel that barbed hooks need to be banned. When marabou feathers were first used on streamer flies, they were banned in Yellowstone Park. Other types of baits, lures, scents, and gear have also been regulated because they are too effective. Fish finders are helpful to locate fish and structure, but you still need to figure out how to catch them.
Advanced AI technologies could be game-changing. Some anglers will resort to anything to catch a fish, whether it is porting, ethical, or legal. The future of fishing will become easier to find places to fish, understand fish behavior, predict weather, and hook up with other experienced anglers.
AI could be like giving your fishing gear a brain. The other day, my buddy Meatstick, used an electronic reel to let out exactly 100 feet of line to troll at that specific depth and distance from the boat. Longer and shorter distances attracted fewer fish.
AI could be helpful in managing fish stocks and populations. Not only can AI find the fish, they can predict what will work and how to catch them. The fish finders will also map the fishing areas and save the data. Weather can be predicted along with when the best fishing will occur.
There is also something called AR. This stands for ‘augmented reality”. The technology overlays digital info to visualize where you are fishing. It’s like super Fishing glasses.
This technology can count and size the fish in real time. By scanning the fish, the data bank can also tell you what to use and how to catch them. This is done using sensors and cameras. The images are fed into the computer that has stored data and info to decipher what to do, in real time.
The sky is the limit when fishing with AI or AR. This new tech is exciting but could become an unfair advantage. Evidence of this can be seen comparing old style fishing gear to modern fishing tackle. Newer and better tackle helps anglers fish easier and better. Finer, cleared lines, and smaller hooks, unique lures that create sound, vibrations, and scents that stimulate a bite are all available today. More anglers catch more fish thanks to these advantages.
Next, we will deploy fishing robots to do our fishing for us!
