The following report is by the Missoulian Angler Fly Shop in Missoula. They score the fishing a 4/5:

Hoot owl restrictions (fishing prohibited 2:00 p.m. to midnight) are in effect for the entire Blackfoot River main stem – from the the headwaters at the confluence of Anaconda Creek and Beartrap Creek to the confluence with the Clark Fork River  August 2.

The Blackfoot River fly fishing has been good lately and it looks like the weather isn’t going to get too hot coming up next week. The cooler temperatures and rain over the last few week has improved fishing. We’ve been recieving a lot of much needed rain so far this summer, which is saving our water temps. The mild summer weather and the longer nights ahead will really improve fishing and temps in the coming weeks. The Blackfoot has been fishing good in the morning this week, but slowing down a lot in the afternoon. Get out early and off early is the name of the game. Dry fly fishing remains steady, and should continue to fish decent in the coming week with the mild weather on tap.

How’s it going to be in a couple weeks

The fishing has been good and it doesn’t look like we are going to see extreme temperatures over the next week. It’s important to keep water temps in mind going forward as the afternoons can be tough on the fish if the water gets too warm. We’ve been lucky with some cooler days and evenings lately, but keep an eye on the weather.
