Flow Data: Bighorn River near St. Xaiver, MT
Overall the Bighorn has been great. Things look to continue this way as the warm weather around Fort Smith continues. The excellent dry fly opportunities continue! Lots of bugs around. Black Caddis everywhere. PMD’s are hatching daily and fish have been looking to eat them daily. Fish on the PMD’s can be a bit tricky so a good first cast and drift with with the right fly is important. PMD nymph imitations have been great under an indicator. Tie a sowbug on with your PMD or caddis nymph and you will likely have a pretty good day. The terrestrial action is starting to pick up if you want to cruise a large dry fly. I like an ant behind my hopper as well. Subsurface a Black Micro Mayfly, Pearl/ Olive Jiggy Perdigon, Black Zebra Midge, or Tailwater Sowbug have all continued to work great. Streamer fishing has been OK. Sparkle Minnows, Skiddish Smolts, and Swim Coaches have all been productive.
