Anglers love a full limit of fish. A Tub O Trout is the Best! Limits represent success and satisfaction. The limits are set so anglers and hunters can gather enough to eat without wiping out the populations of fish and game.

Right now, Canyon Ferry is fishing well. Catching a Tub of rainbows is possible NOW! The lake fishes best just before first ice. The way Montana is, that will be in a few weeks, or a month.

BIG BOWS are cruising the shorelines. Any accessible place is worth setting up on. No boats, trolling, or honey holes required. Fishing from shore is satisfying and fun. The trout are searching for gravel beds and inflows for spawning.

These huge bows are the result of annual stockings that have grown up. When the fish reach about 3 years of age, they become prime spawners. They were stocked when they were about 6 or so inches long. Now they exceed 20 inches. You will need a BIG NET!

We hit the lake north of the Silos the other day. Initially the bite was slow but soon we were in the money. A bobber with a 4-foot dropper was the ticket. Meat Stick used a whole nightcrawler to turn on the bite. We fished in an area where the water was maybe 12-15 feet deep and accessible with a normal casting range.

I used half of a worm and caught half the trout. I was netting Meat Stick’s fish 2 at a time. He was the King of the Lake! The fish fight hard and are fat and healthy.

Some folks say that they do not like eating trout. I am not sure if they don’t like eating them or can’t catch them. These monster trout are tasty. Just pretend they are salmon filets from Costco and cook them the way you like them. Most trout naysayers seem to prefer Salmon. Trout simply tastes less fishy than salmon. The meat is bright orange and wonderful.

I use a Honey Soy recipe that I found for Salmon. If the filets are too big, cut them down to the size that you like and enjoy. Cut the large filets into smaller portions. You can create fish sticks, poach the filets to make fish cakes or soup, broil, grill, smoke, bake or fry. These trout are full of healthy qualities that are good for our body.
