GLASGOW – The Redwater Fishing Access Site (FAS) was established and completed in the late summer of 2025 after many years of working with the BLM to establish this site. Redwater is a day-use only FAS, which offers public access to the confluence of the Missouri and Redwater Rivers in northern McCone County.
The FAS amenities include a gravel boat ramp, parking area, picnic area, latrine and bank- fishing opportunities. Located 20 river miles below Lewis and Clark FAS near Wolf Point, this FAS allows new river access along the Missouri between Wolf Point and Culbertson.
The FAS is open sunrise to sunset for day-use only. No camping, fires or fireworks are allowed on the FAS. Hunting is allowed on the FAS during commission-approved hunting seasons, but please be safe and aware of your target and beyond.
The site can be accessed by heading east from Hwy. 13 south of Wolf Point on Nickwall Road for about 16 miles, or by going south of Hwy. 2 on S-480 between Poplar and Brockton over the Poplar Bridge (about 5 miles) and then heading west on County Road 149 for about 12 miles until it joins up with Nickwall Road. Watch for signs.
In addition to being a great opportunity for Missouri River access, this site also has significant historical value. The confluence of the Redwater and Missouri rivers was an important cultural site for indigenous peoples and was a milestone location for Lewis and Clark, who named the Redwater “2000 Mile Creek” to mark the distance they had traveled from the start of their journey.
