Leaving your door open for the dog sounds harmless—but in areas where big cats reside, that kind of ‘open invitation’ could attract a mountain lion instead. A video out of La Verne, California shows a big cat strolling right into someone’s home like it owns the place, and it’s quite the reminder to be aware that urban wildlife roams the areas, too.

In Big Sky Country, mountain lions are common, and while encounters inside a house are rare, leaving doors or gates open around cabins, barns, or backyards can make it a lot easier for curious predators—or any number of wild critters—to wander in. A little caution goes a long way in keeping both humans and wildlife safe! You just can’t predict the actions of an animal.
