Word on the river is out… and the Fred Robinson Bridge is about to get busy. A slight rise in flows has triggered some major paddlefish movement just in time for the long weekend. If you’re planning your Memorial Day escape, Biologist Cody Nagel has the latest boots-on-the-ground (and fish-in-the-river) data you need to read before you cast. Here is your May 21, 2026 update:
by Biologist Cody Nagel
As we approach the Memorial Day Weekend of the 2026 paddlefish season on the upper Missouri, flows have increased but still remain low from historic average.
The slight rise in flow has increased paddlefish movements and angling success. Currently, flows at the Landusky stream gauge are 7200 cfs and paddlefish can be found in areas upstream of the Fred Robinson Bridge down to the headwaters of Fort Peck.
The word is that anglers are catching more paddlefish in the Fred Robinson Bridge area. Snagging activity is picking up and I expect this weekend to be quite busy.
Enjoy the long holiday weekend!
