According to an August 11, 2026 report by Grizzly Hackle, Rock Creek is delivering high-quality fishing across the board, with anglers finding eager trout even in well-frequented areas. Because warm weather is forecasted and “Hoot owl restrictions (fishing prohibited 2:00 p.m. to midnight) are in effect for Upper Rock Creek,” the best action happens early and late in the day to avoid the mid-day lull.
Dry-dropper setups remain the most consistent approach. Prominent dry fly options include hoppers, ants, beetles, spruce moths, and small attractors (sizes #12–16) like the Purple Haze or Stimulator, while large stoneflies, Pat’s RL, and perdigons work well subsurface.
Evening hatches feature caddis and PMD spinners, and small, flashy streamers offer a solid backup when the surface bite slows down. Overall, water conditions are significantly better than last year, and “The fish are happy and looking up!”
