Montana’s rivers and lakes have some restrictions in place due to low water levels, fish protection and construction projects. Here’s a quick rundown before you head out.
Beaverhead River: Fishing is closed from Clark Canyon Dam to Pipe Organ Fishing Access Site due to low water flows. A seasonal spawning closure begins October 1.
Big Hole River: Two sections are closed to fishing because of low river flows. The closures are in effect around the clock. (The stretch from Saginaw Bridge on Skinner Meadow Road to the North Fork confluence, and the stretch from Tony Schoonen Fishing Access Site to the Beaverhead River confluence.)
Blackfoot River: Floating is prohibited from Weigh Station Fishing Access Site downstream to Interstate 90 due to railway bridge construction.
Missouri River: Public access is closed from Broadwater Bay Boat Ramp to Black Eagle Dam, including the West Bank Park kayak launch and dock, due to construction.
Sun River: All recreational use is prohibited within 500 feet upstream and downstream of Pishkun Road Bridge through November 15, 2026.
