Join the Fun: Denise Schlegel Memorial Fishing Tournament 2026

Feb-04-26 by Angela Montana

If you’re looking for a reason to celebrate late winter in Montana—with fishing rods, kids on the ice, and a whole lot of heart—this is it. The 3rd Annual Margo’s March Madness: Denise Schlegel Memorial Fishing Tournament is headed back to Bitterroot Lake, and it’s shaping up to be another unforgettable, family-friendly weekend.

Happening February 28 and March 1, 2026, this event is all about community, memories, and having fun on the ice. Anglers will be targeting salmon and perch only, with a $25 entry fee and a 100% payout after FWP fees. Cash prizes go to the top four anglers in each species, awarded Sunday after final weigh-ins. Kids 12 and under get their own spotlight too, with cash and prizes for the top three in each species—because nothing beats seeing young anglers light up with a fish in hand.

But here’s the best part: you don’t even have to fish to win. There are door prizes (Sunday only), a prize for the smallest fish, and plenty of reasons to just come hang out, cheer people on, and soak up the fun. Weigh-ins run from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. both days, and advance tickets are available at Libby Sports Center, Snappy’s Sports Center, Chancy & Dave’s Fish Camp, and Hilltop Hitching Post.

At its core, this tournament is about more than fish—it’s about honoring Denise Schlegel, bringing families together, and keeping traditions alive on the ice. Whether you’re chasing a paycheck, helping your kid land their first tournament fish, or just showing up for the laughs and door prizes, Margo’s March Madness is one of those Montana weekends you don’t want to miss! See you there!
