Montana FWP reduced its wolf population estimate and raised harvest quotas. Here’s what the change means for hunters in wolf country this fall.

Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks announced a software update to its wolf tracking system, revealing two population estimates: 1,094 wolves from the old model and 725 from the new, more precise model. Due to a declining population trend, FWP proposes reducing the wolf harvest quota from 450 to 250. Public comments are due by August 12.
