FWP solicits public comment on a draft plan and environmental impact statement to guide the long-term management and conservation of wolves across Montana
The draft 2023 Montana Gray Wolf Conservation and Management Plan (2023 Wolf Plan) incorporates updates in wolf-related research, more than 20 years of management experience, evolution in conflict management, new laws, social perspectives, and public input. The draft plan also references the transition to using the number of individual wolves as the population metric, rather than breeding pairs.
A key foundation of FWP’s wolf management and the 2003 plan that is fundamental to the new plan is the clear relationships between monitoring and management, timely harvest tracking effective conflict management, and flexibility to integrate new science-based monitoring and management strategies
