When sportsmen, women, and kids are playing outdoors, they prefer to feast in a hurry. Fast Food needs to be consumable in just a few quick bites before another fish bites, antlers dance from behind a tree, or something exciting is about to go down.
Slider sandwiches are nothing new. These small sandwiches are inviting and tasty. Back in the day, your mother or grandmother made small Sliders by cutting off your bread crusts and making the sandwich into 4 small quarters.
You can make a Slider out of most anything. A quick P B and J are always a hit. Cold cuts, tuna or egg salad, or fresh veggies will hit the spot.” Cookie”, my fishing buddy enjoys potato chips or Doritos on his sandwiches to add some texture and crunch. The key is their small presentation.
Once you grab a Slider, you may only need 3-4 bites to eat it. If the fish bites, it’s small enough to shove into your mouth for a final chew, while landing the fish.
The key to most Sliders is a tasty sauce. This could be some mayo, horseradish, relish, or your favorite combo sauce. If making small fish sandwiches, consider a simple and fresh Tartar sauce. If you are using a sauce, consider buttering the roll first. This will help to keep the sauce from making the bread soggy. It also adds more flavor.
For Slider rolls look at homemade biscuits. Grocers often bake their own small potato dinner rolls or other breads. Hawaiian Rolls come in trays and have a sweeter taste. You can literally cut the entire tray of rolls in half and build an entire tray at one time.
Don’t forget Tortillas. I like to toast them and then cut the tortilla from the center to one side. Now you can form, roll them into a cone. Just lay out some taco fillings and let the hungry Sports build their own. You can cut a cardboard boy with holes, to hold the cones in place. Fill them with fish, sloppy joes, breakfast fixins, or… Tortillas also make easy wraps.

Leftovers are rare when you make a platter of Sliders. You can’t have just one.
Slip and Slide down some tasty bites on your next outing.
