Don Wilkins’ latest report shows fish heading shallow as walleyes crush bait and smallmouth bass turn aggressive on the rocks. With the summer salmon run starting early and producing absolute tanks, it’s shaping up to be a massive season!
Here’s Don’s latest report:
Walleye– in the colder water around the north end of the lake dragging fathead minnows on the bottom accounted for the majority of our bigger fish the past week. We found some water temps from 55-58 degrees going west and jigs and plastics worked well on some nice eater sized fish in 8-12 FOW
Smallmouth– lots of fish up shallow along rocky points and ridges now. Jigs and plastics,Carolina rigs, and shallow diving square bill crankbaits all caught fish. We used the crankbaits as a search bait and when we found some good pockets of fish a switch to plastics caught the bigger ones
There’s also been a few Salmon caught this past week. The biggest we heard of was 22 pounds and the others were in the mid teens. Hopefully a good sign for the summer salmon run
